Blaenafon Cheddar "1868" Mature

2024 International Cheese Awards – Bronze Award-winning mature cheddar, aged below the The Lion Hotel and Restaurant 1868 in their cellar. In 1868 there were riots at the Lion Hotel because a Conservative MP was returned in the General Election when most of the local people supported the Liberals but did not have the right to vote. The Royal Welsh Fusiliers were called in and only just managed to stop a murder from being committed.
